February 2010: The Carter House Native Garden wins silver medal in the Sustainable Landscapes Native Garden Awards 2010. Green Gecko Studios is very proud that the Carter House Native Garden has won a silver medal in the public gardens category of the inaugural Native Garden Awards. Excerpt from the statement of results: The judging panel was deeply impressed by the City of Holdfast Bay’s commitment to interpreting the landscape both ecologically and culturally. The Carter House native garden involves the local indigenous community and an enthusiastic band of volunteer gardeners so that the site has developed a unique sense of place. They have paid close attention to conserving remnant plant populations and the garden has now become an important seed bank for the local community of coastal gardeners. The brochure promotes the use of indigenous plants in home gardens.
